Traveling to Disney with a First Timer

It’s been awhile since I wrote my first blog. I have been trying to get into a routine of writing every day but everything that I have been writing does not fit with my travel blog. So now I am pushing through my other pieces and updating you guys on what I am looking forward to later this year. In September, I will be heading down to Florida to go to Walt Disney World!

This isn’t necessarily a new thing to hear if you know me at all. Nevertheless, I am still excited to go once again. Though I have gone many times before, this trip to Disney World will be quite different. Instead of going with my family, I will finally be going with a friend. Don’t get me wrong, I love going to Disney with my family. (Obviously since I’ve gone around 12 times with them). I just feel like going with my friend is going to be a whole new experience.

My friend has never been to Disney World before. I am trying to wrap my head around everything I feel like she needs to see and do during her first trip to Disney. With Disney connoisseurs, everyone knows what they like and dislike, so you are able to skip rides or know exactly what restaurants you should and shouldn’t go to. My family isn’t really into getting our pictures taken with characters unless the lines are short. I feel like I have to go through a whole Disney plunge again like my very first time and learn everything there is to know so I don’t let my friend miss out on any of the magic.

The part I am most excited about is finally drinking around the world at Epcot. My family isn’t huge on drinking, especially when we are walking around in the heat all day and riding rides. Not to mention, they don’t think 11 drinks sound like a very fun time and didn’t want to spend their Disney trip hungover. I have seen many Disney goers stopping around #7 or #8 so we shall see how far around the world we get in our drinking endeavours. Let me know if you have any favorite drink locations in Epcot!

This is going to be a learning experience for both me and my friend. I’m going to learn to fully experience Disney World again (good and bad). My friend is going to learn that I know a tremendous amount of information about Disney World. I honestly hope she has a great time and will want to continue going back as much as I do. Do you guys have any tips for traveling with a newbie?  Hopefully once I go through this experience, I will have a new blog to write for those of you going through the same thing!

My Travel Style

I feel like as I got older, I discovered that people traveled for different reasons. When I was younger, I always thought traveling was only a vacation. I felt like if I didn’t go to the beach or take off of school for a week, that I couldn’t label it as traveling. Now a day trip or a long weekend suffices and even holds more adventures than some of my week-long beach trips.

In college, we would travel to visit friends who lived in different states. We’d make a plan to meet somewhere during the summer break. We would even take late-night drives to the Inner Harbor on a random Wednesday after our classes left out. I also got to include some family vacations as well during those four years.

Now, as a graduate working “adult”, I am figuring out what type of traveler I am. I love going to new places and discovering areas I have never been before. But I have figured out that I like to plan a lot of what I do before I go. I feel that it can help me experience more than if I would just go somewhere not knowing what there is to do around the area. Once I get to my destination, I take some time doing the things I have planned and get comfortable in the area. Here is where I will ask the locals what their favorite things to do are and talk to them about what I have done so far. I don’t mind adding in a random activity that someone recommends during my trip.

I am still getting comfortable with traveling. I like to go with friends and family. I want to get out of my comfort zone and try traveling alone. Whether it is an hour away or halfway across the country, I want to experience a solo travel at least once in my life.

I call myself an “active leisure” travel. I like to being doing things on every day of my trips, but I like to relax. I’ll choose activities that let me explore and are able to sit back and take it all in. Hiking or walking is one of my favorite things to do when visiting a new place. This year I have one trip planned so far with my friend in September. I am always open to suggestions on where I should travel next. Let me know what your favorite travel spots are or what type of traveler you are!
