My Travel Style

I feel like as I got older, I discovered that people traveled for different reasons. When I was younger, I always thought traveling was only a vacation. I felt like if I didn’t go to the beach or take off of school for a week, that I couldn’t label it as traveling. Now a day trip or a long weekend suffices and even holds more adventures than some of my week-long beach trips.

In college, we would travel to visit friends who lived in different states. We’d make a plan to meet somewhere during the summer break. We would even take late-night drives to the Inner Harbor on a random Wednesday after our classes left out. I also got to include some family vacations as well during those four years.

Now, as a graduate working “adult”, I am figuring out what type of traveler I am. I love going to new places and discovering areas I have never been before. But I have figured out that I like to plan a lot of what I do before I go. I feel that it can help me experience more than if I would just go somewhere not knowing what there is to do around the area. Once I get to my destination, I take some time doing the things I have planned and get comfortable in the area. Here is where I will ask the locals what their favorite things to do are and talk to them about what I have done so far. I don’t mind adding in a random activity that someone recommends during my trip.

I am still getting comfortable with traveling. I like to go with friends and family. I want to get out of my comfort zone and try traveling alone. Whether it is an hour away or halfway across the country, I want to experience a solo travel at least once in my life.

I call myself an “active leisure” travel. I like to being doing things on every day of my trips, but I like to relax. I’ll choose activities that let me explore and are able to sit back and take it all in. Hiking or walking is one of my favorite things to do when visiting a new place. This year I have one trip planned so far with my friend in September. I am always open to suggestions on where I should travel next. Let me know what your favorite travel spots are or what type of traveler you are!
